Society Profile
The Prison Officers’ Medical Aid Society was established on 4th June 1981 as a private Health Insurance Scheme.
The Society is what is known as a ” Restricted Membership Undertaking ” ie. Membership is restricted to serving and retired prison officers and their dependant spouses or partners and children. The number of persons currently insured exceeds 10,500.
The scheme is governed by a Committee of 9 voting members, 2 Trustees, a representative of the Association of Retired Prison Officers and a representative of the Prison Officers’ Association.
The Society is registered with the Department of Health and is operated in accordance with Irish Health Insurance Legislation. Our licence is granted by the Health Insurance Authority and is renewable on a year to year basis.
